All play, no work!

Founded by award winning actor-writer-director-producer Vikash Khurana in 2003, Stagecraft Theatre (Nagpur) has staged over 65 productions in 13 years and performed at venues in Nagpur and Mumbai. We are a motley group of professional men and women of all ages and from diverse backgrounds comprising of actors, technicians, musicians, choreographers, designers bound by our love for theatre.

We create and nurture a platform for the theatre arts in Nagpur and bring more and more people into the magical realm of theatre. We aspire to provide our audiences with unadulterated entertainment, be it rib-tickling comedies, edge of the seat suspense, high voltage drama, costume extravaganzas, classics and larger-than-life musicals.

In our endeavour to tell engaging stories, provide unadulterated entertainment and food for thought, nurture a passion for the art, develop excellence in the craft and take the joy of theatre to ever widening audiences, we collaborate with schools, colleges and corporate houses.

Stagecraft Theatre’s activities range from ‘Stagecraft Adda’, a platform for experiments in our craft; ‘Stage Rage’, an intercollegiate annual drama competition; ‘Stagecraft Fiesta’, a performing arts festival; ‘Stagecraft Awards’, to award the best performers in various fields; and ‘Stagecraft Workshops’, to encourage creative thinking and appreciation for the performing arts among school children and young adults.

The Journey
In the words of Vikash Khurana

“Till 2003,  the sleepy town of Nagpur had not seen much of English Theatre and it was not easy to get people to appreciate what they had not seen. The first play of Stagecraft Theatre, ‘My Fair Lady’, was not a commercial success; but it was a start. Things started to look up with the staging of the second play, ‘Once Upon a Time in Bollywood’, ran to packed houses. Since 2006 Stagecraft Theatre has been producing an average of six plays a year. The year 2006 was also the year in which Stagecraft theatre produced it’s first Shakespearean play, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and since then we have staged a Shakespeare play every year.

With the staging of ‘Twelfth Night’ in January 2013, Stagecraft Theatre celebrated it’s 50th production and 10th anniversary. We now have in our repertory both Hindi and English plays and have performed on invitation at prestigious venues like the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) and Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai and our plays have received overwhelming response and recognition at both these venues.  Over the years, more than 250 young and old actors, singers, dancers, technicians, musicians, designers et. al. have become a part of the Stagecraft Theatre.

On 27 June 2015, we celebrated 12 years since the first show of ‘My Fair Lady’ and started rehearsals for our 63rd production. Stay tuned!”
